Spot Color

This refers to a specific color of ink used on a printing press. A spot color printed piece may have only one, or many different ink colors. Usually if the image has more than 4 spot colors, it is more cost-effective to print it as process color. Occasionally a spot color will be added to a process color printed piece if the spot color is one that cannot be reproduced in CMYK (for example, a metallic ink).
